After debuting their fiery new anthem, ‘Backup Plan’, at Stagecoach 2025, Bailey Zimmerman and Luke Combs have announced the keenly awaited song's release date.
‘Backup Plan’ will drop this Friday, May 2nd, with Zimmerman taking to socials to underline his excitement ahead of the blockbuster release. The ‘Religiously’ singer-songwriter has shared, “Backup Plan” w/ @lukecombs DROPS THIS FRIDAY YALL🔥😎”.
Bailey Zimmerman has caught flak in the past for teasing songs and then making fans hang on for months before releasing them. While Zimmerman technically shared the first snippet of ‘Backup Plan’ back in January, we only got to hear the version with Luke Combs last week for the first time, so it feels like we haven't had to wait quite as long as we did for Zimmerman's ‘All The Way’ with BigXthaPlug.
Followers started growing restless after BigXthaPlug uploaded a clip of ‘All The Way’ on Valentine's Day, with no release date in sight until it dropped at long last in early April.
It can be a double-edged sword, as often, giving an unreleased snippet time to build momentum on TikTok can provide a springboard for a smash hit, but sometimes, the artists hold off on dropping the track for too long and the hype fizzles out.
Given the star-power of both Bailey Zimmerman and Luke Combs, and the excitement surrounding ‘Breakup Plan’ following their momentous set at Stagecoach, we think this is en route to becoming one of the biggest tracks of the summer.
As they introduced their duet on the California festival's Mane Stage, Combs revealed that they were shooting the music video for ‘Backup Plan’ during their live-wire performance.
‘Backup Plan’ finds Combs leaning into the rowdy, electric-guitar-fuelled hooks that peppered his earlier material, while Zimmerman showcases his charismatic vibrato throughout. It's an uplifting, galvanising earworm - and Friday can't come soon enough.
