Like the rest of us, country music chart-topper Jordan Davis spent last night glued to his TV screen, as Rory McIlroy battled with Justin Rose for the coveted Masters Green Jacket.
The two golfers locked horns after an incredible four rounds at Augusta National for one play-off hole, with Rory McIlroy initially squandering the chance to take the spoils when he missed his birdie put on the 18th. Walking back to the tee alongside Justin Rose, you couldn't help but feel as though the wind had been swept out of McIlroy's sails, with Rose's momentum growing with each step.
Then the Northern Irishman reminded us why he has cemented himself in the golfing history books, and remains one of the biggest figures in the sport some 16 years after his PGA debut.
Rory McIlroy went for glory and dropped his approach next to the pin. The second time around, just a few paces from where he had missed about twenty minutes prior, McIlroy held his nerve and sank the putt - and then sank to his knees in relief.
As the world continues to react to Rory McIlroy's long-awaited victory, with McIlroy being forced to take 11 attempts to finally secure his Green Jacket and complete the career Grand Slam, Jordan Davis has shared his comical response to the win.
Alongside a hilarious video of the ‘Bar None’ singer-songwriter contorting and nail-biting on the sofa as he struggled through the tense final moments of McIlroy's victory, Jordan Davis has quipped, “We may or may not have put all of our assets on @rorymcilroy today… A lot of ups and downs but Shades Davis always comes out on top”.
Davis adopts the alter-ego of ‘Shades Davis’ for his amusing, light-hearted skits, with the ‘Next Thing You Know’ crooner often showcasing his playful side via socials.
Davis is an avid follower of the sport, with the Louisiana native taking part in The Players’ Military Appreciation Day last month, before announcing his 2025 Ain't Enough Road Tour with Mitchell Tenpenny and Vincent Mason through a golf-themed skit.
It appears Shades Davis’ (seemingly sizeable) bet on Rory McIlroy paid off, after the turmoil of the rollercoaster ride that was McIlroy's final round at August yesterday.
As he gears up for a new album rollout, we're hoping Jordan Davis might draw on his penchant for the links when crafting his next project. We've had a number of golf-themed sketches and a music video - ‘Good Beer’ with Seaforth - but we're yet to have a track penned about the sport we all know and love. Admittedly, ‘Justin Rose’ is an easier name to find a rhyme for than ‘Rory McIlroy’ (“McIlroy froze / Now we're watching Justin Rose / Who will win? Nobody knows / Let's leave it to the Pros...”) - but if anyone can figure it out, Jordan Davis can.
