Ashley McBryde and Carly Pearce have taken home the coveted Grammy for Best Country Duo / Group Performance for their intricate anthem, ‘Never Wanted To Be That Girl’.

The chart-topping track originally appeared on Pearce's acclaimed 2021 album, 29: Written in Stone.

It has quickly become a fan-favourite at her live shows - so much so that Pearce recently released a live rendition of the song, as part of her upcoming 29: Written In Stone (Live From Music City) project, which drops on March 24.

Once McBryde and Pearce had accepted the award, they both took to social media to celebrate their first ever Grammy.

McBryde wrote, “First times only happen one time, and today marks my first time. Congratulations Carly girl, we did it”.

Pearce echoed this sentiment, underlining just how much it meant to be able to share her first Grammy with such a close friend, “WROTE A REAL COUNTRY SONG WITH MY FRIEND AND WE WON OUR FIRST GRAMMY. I have no words. Zero. None. More later. I love you @ashleymcbryde”.

The evening also saw Cody Johnson win his first ever Grammy, with the Texan being awarded Best Country Song for ‘‘Til You Can't’. Willie Nelson also enjoyed a successful evening, taking the gongs for Best Country Album and Best Country Solo Performance.
