The new single from breakout singer Brandon Davis couldn’t come at a better time. As the world seems to quickly fall in on us, it’s a timely reminder to just stop sometimes and take a moment to be grateful for what we have.

“Hundreds of people will spend tonight without food or shelter while we take our warm bed for granted. ’Something's Better Than Nothing’ shows that true happiness lies in appreciating the things you already have", Davis explained about the inspiration behind his new single.

“There will always be a newer, bigger, better version of everything and it easily becomes an insatiable pattern of buying. I think this song reminds people how important it is to take a step back and take count of their blessings.”

Brandon Davis has many reasons to count his own blessing. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee and growing up in a musical family – his grandparents traveled the country singing gospel music and his father chased a career in gospel and country music throughout his life – his passions were split between baseball and music.

Davis would spend his days playing the music of Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings at places such as the Birchwood Family Opry while doing his best to emulate the career path of his father, who’d even served as an opener for a Garth Brooks show back in 1988. Splitting his time between baseball and talent shows, the first fork in the road of young Brandon Davis’s life took him away from the baseball field when a shoulder injury stopped him playing.

Unable to rely on music alone, he studied for an Engineering Management degree from University of Tennessee, which led him to meet and marry his wife and begin making a home with their three children.

Life never runs smoothly, but sometimes it’s the bumps and road closures that force you to take a different turning off and a new route to wherever it is you’re heading.

In 2019, a near-fatal car accident landed Davis in the hospital, leaving him to spend many precarious days focusing in on the dreams he had already decided to put on the backburner. “I couldn’t tell our kids to go chase their dreams if I wasn’t going to,” remembers Davis, who was a dad of three with another baby on the way at the time of the head-on collision. “The accident was my chance to change everything.”

So, with the help his wife and trying to make sense of a world that was suddenly stuck home home due to the pandemic, Davis seized the opportunity for a second chance to do what he truly loved, and spent the next year performing impromptu covers of everyone from Chris Stapleton to Brad Paisley on TikTok – always opening with his trademark 'Hey Baby' – and quickly garnering an online following of 1.5 million followers on the platform alone.

The ranks of the BD Brigade, as he calls his army of fans, was growing bigger by the day, and in the fall of 2021 Davis quit his job as a Sprinkler System Designer in favour of following his country music dreams.

“You don’t realize all the blessings you have until you go back and count them,” he says quietly. “It’s these blessings that I carry with me now as I push toward that next level.”

We’re so excited to have his new single premiering exclusively on Holler below. Taken from his forthcoming Hearts Don’t Rust EP, ’Something's Better Than Nothing’ is one of eight songs that lay out all the reasons why Brandon Davis was right not to give up on his dreams; we can all be thankful he didn’t.
