Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit have released the third single from their hotly anticipated new album, Weathervanes.

‘Cast Iron Skillet’ follows the release of ‘Middle of the Morning’ and ‘Death Wish’, as Isbell's album rollout continues to pick up the pace. It'll serve as Jason Isbell and his band's first project since their widely acclaimed 2021 record, Georgia Blue.

‘Cast Iron Skillet’ adopts a gentler, more peaceful atmosphere compared to the driving, angsty lead single from Weathervanes, ‘Death Wish’. ‘Cast Iron Skillet’ finds Isbell dissecting a variety of famous myths, life lessons and beliefs that are passed down from generation to generation.

He explores both the helpful and the harmful, from simple, endearing nuggets of wisdom, such as “Don’t wash the cast iron skillet / Don’t drink and drive, you’ll spill it”, to the more sinister, destructive worldviews that lead to discrimination and isolation.

The release of ‘Cast Iron Skillet’ has undoubtedly raised the already sky-high expectations ahead of Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit's upcoming album, Weathervanes, with fans hoping we'll receive another single or two from the project ahead of its release on June 9.

Earlier in April, the HBO Max documentary about Jason Isbell's creation of Reunions alongside his trusty band, the 400 Unit, was released. Jason Isbell: Running With Our Eyes Closed also tackles Isbell's struggles with addiction, painful relationships and more.
