Tucker Wetmore - ‘You, Honey’

Release Date: October 4, 2024

Album: Waves On A Sunset

Songwriters: Tucker Wetmore, Josh Thompson and Michael Lotten

Producer: Chris LaCorte

The Background:

Tucker Wetmore has taken country music by storm over the last several months, releasing songs like ‘Wine Into Whiskey’ and ‘Wind Up Missin’ You’ to viral acclaim. Now, he's showing fans what else he has up his sleeve.

On Friday (Oct. 4), the quickly rising star dropped his debut EP, Waves on a Sunset, an 8-track project that finds the artist flexing his versatility while also further showcasing the talent that has kept him on top lately.

One of those fresh offerings is 'You, Honey', a charming addition to Wetmore's steadily growing catalogue of loved-up hits.

The Sound:

'You, Honey' begins as a deceptively twangy number, coming to life in a showering of sharp, plucky acoustics. Soon, a beat starts to blossom underneath the shimmering strings before it builds into the heartbeat of the song.

Further in, 'You, Honey' becomes a beat-battered, steel-fueled offering, one that pulses and warms the way new love feels.

The Meaning:

"If I could paint the scene, it's you and me on a hilltop with some wine
Sippin' slow, your candy-coated lips all up on mine
And what happens next, that's between you and me
The blue in the sky and this sycamore tree"

It's no mystery. 'You, Honey' finds Wetmore smitten, taken by a woman he envisions sharing wine-doused moments and wind-blown summertimes with. He can picture it now, singing:

"You're sugar-sweet blowin' in the summertime air
Drivin' me wild like the flower in your sunshine hair
Dizzy dancin', sundress slippin' off your shoulder, damn, girl, it stops me
Baby, right now, you got me buzzin' like a bee
For some of you, honey"

He can even taste it, and it sure seems sweet. He can't seem to get enough either – in the song, he croons "Every time I get it all, I want it all again / Yeah, there ain't nothin' like it, you're gettin' me high, girl" – feeling drugged by this woman and jonesing for more of her love.

It's a simple song but one of the album's strongest, with its sweet sentiment, breezy melody and effortless charm.

"You're sugar-sweet blowin' in the summertime air
Drivin' me wild like the flower in your sunshine hair
Dizzy dancin', sundress slippin' off your shoulder, damn, girl, it stops me
Baby, right now, you got me buzzin' like a bee
For some of you, honey"

What has Tucker Wetmore said about ‘You, Honey’?

Wetmore hasn't gone into great detail about 'You, Honey', but during a conversation with Holler, he briefly touched on the saccharine ballad. “I love love," he professed. "I love everybody and I love everything - and that's just who I am. I want to portray love to my people”.

In the interview, he went on to explain that all the tracks on Waves on a Sunset have a purpose.

“It was all very intentional”, he offered, “I hope people really dive into the purpose behind every song placement, especially at the end. When the album comes next year, they'll see, ‘Oh, that's why he chose ‘Mister Miss Her’. I'm going to do something with the album too, where it's like, ‘Oh, this is why’. It's all storytelling. It's almost like songwriting within songs. I'm not going to say what my whole idea behind the album is yet, but what is coming on Friday is very intentional”.

For some of you, honey

That gold in your brown eyes, that tan up on your skin
Every time I get it all, I want it all again
Yeah, there ain't nothin' like it, you're gettin' me high, girl

You're sugar-sweet blowin' in the summertime air
Drivin' me wild like the flower in your sunshine hair
Dizzy dancin', sundress slippin' off your shoulder, damn, girl, it stops me
Baby, right now, you got me buzzin' like a bee
For some of you, honey
For some of you, honey

For some of you, honey
Doin' what you do, honey

You're sugar-sweet blowin' in the summertime air
Drivin' me wild like the flower in your sunshine hair
Dizzy dancin', sundress slippin' off your shoulder, damn, girl, it stops me
Baby, right now, you got me buzzin' like a bee
For some of you, honey
For some of you, honey
