Riley Green - 'Waitin' All Day'

Label: Nashville Harbor

Release Date: October 18, 2024

Album: Don't Mind If I Do

Songwriters: Riley Green, Erik Dylan, Wyatt McCubbin, Lydia Vaughan

Producer: Dann Huff

The Background:

With Riley Green's latest album, Don't Mind If I Do, comes an eclectic mix of new music, the 'Different 'Round Here' star serving up some twangers, bangers and ballads about everything from his home to his family to his romantic life.

Among the collection's highlights is 'Waitin' All Day', a smoldering addition to Green's hallmark dress-shedding serenades, one that may just give his fan-favorite 'Worst Way' a run for its money.

The Sound:

'Waitin' All Day' kicks off at a leisurely clip, sultry country-blues riffs setting the pace from the very beginning. However, the ballad soon heats up, igniting an exciting mix of moaning steel, pulsating rhythms and gruff baritone. The majority of the tune unfurls at this tempo, giving life to a heart-racing number.

'Waitin' All Day' is one of the more sensual offerings that appear on Don't Mind If I Do, its arrangement just as dreamy as its words.

The Meaning:

"These boots can’t wait to get kicked off on the front porch
Me and you ain’t gonna make it very far past the front door
That record’s been waiting on a needle
That whiskey’s been waiting on a glass
And I been running out of patience pedal down racing
I need to get to you fast"

'Waitin' All Day' finds Riley Green longing to get home, eager to make it through the front door, kick off his boots, throw on some tunes and fill a glass with whiskey. It's been a long day; however, relaxation may be the furthest thing from his mind.

"Hurry on up and slow it on down
Watching that clock but it’s watching us now
Been losing my mind like you’re losing that dress
I think it’s ‘bout time we do what we do best
‘Cause I been waiting all day
To be up all night long, loving you"

It seems he's been waiting all day to make love. That's right. 'Waitin' All Day', like all great works of art, is about sex – having it, needing it, thinking of nothing other than it.

Green wants hands, lips, he wants it all and he wants it now. He doesn't care how long it takes, singing "I bet the boss will be waiting in the morning / Yeah, ‘cause I’ll be rolling in late". Because, in his words, "The world outside this bedroom is just gonna have to wait."

"Yeah, I been waiting all day
I been waiting all day yeah so what do you say, what do you say"

What has Riley Green said about 'Waitin' All Day'?

During his Don't Mind If I Do UK album listening party on Thursday, October 17th, Riley Green delved into the creation of ‘Waitin’ All Day’, “‘Waitin’ All Day’ is a sexier song and it's about waiting all day to get to that person. Lydia Vaughn was in the room writing with us and she's the one that steers it back into a place that I would say keeps the song appropriate. I think this song is a little more raw and broken down and Dan [Huff] definitely gets a lot of the credit on the production of it”.

“These boots can’t wait to get kicked off on the front porch
Me and you ain’t gonna make it very far past the front door
That record’s been waiting on a needle
That whiskey’s been waiting on a glass
And I been running out of patience pedal down racing
I need to get to you fast

Hurry on up and slow it on down
Watching that clock but it’s watching us now
Been losing my mind like you’re losing that dress
I think it’s ‘bout time we do what we do best
‘Cause I been waiting all day
To be up all night long, loving you

These hands naw they can’t seem to wait to be all over you
And these lips they been waiting on a taste of a drink or two
I bet the boss will be waiting in the morning
Yeah, ‘cause I’ll be rolling in late
And the world outside this bedroom is just gonna have to wait

So, Hurry on up and slow it on down
Watching that clock but it’s watching us now
Been losing my mind like you’re losing that dress
I think it’s ‘bout time we do what we do best
‘Cause I been waiting all day
To be up all night long, loving you
Loving you

Yeah, I been waiting all day
I been waiting all day yeah so what do you say, what do you say

‘Cause hurry on up, slow it on down
Watching that clock but it’s watching us now
Been losing my mind like you’re losing that dress
I think it’s damn time we do what we do best
‘Cause I been waiting all day
To be up all night long, yeah
All night long loving you
Well I been waiting, I been waiting all day (been waiting all day)”
