Ty Myers - ‘Through A Screen’

Release Date: August 15, 2025

Album: TBC

Songwriter: Ty Myers

Producer: Brandon Hood

The Background:

Over the last year or so, rising country star Ty Myers has been helping aid the revitalization of boyfriend country.

Taking after prominent figures before him like Dan + Shay, early Thomas Rhett, Brett Young and others, his easy breezy quasi-country offerings have taken him from strength to strength, and the same is true of his newest release, 'Through A Screen.'

Undoubtedly providing the ultimate soundtrack for teenagers and country fans in their early '20s, there's an element of every Myers release that screams adolescence and teenage angst, which is a cornerstone of this 2025 single.

'Through A Screen' follows his momentous debut album The Select, released at the beginning of 2025, and with well over half a billion streams worldwide, there’s no doubt that Myers is making a name for himself.

The Sound:

As has become pretty typical across Myers' discography so far, 'Through A Screen' doesn't have many inherently country elements at play. On initial listen, it doesn't seem like a song that you'd hear buzzing across country radio, yet his smooth southern drawl adds enough twangy flourish to make it all make sense.

Carried by an orchestra of stringed instruments that ebb and swell throughout, a lone piano reigns as the center point on 'Through A Screen,' while Myers fully steps into a jazz crooner persona.

The Meaning:

"I usually don't stay up too late
Washed up and in bed by eight
But tonight had its own set of plans

The fight to stay awake has entered my mind
Small talk with bags on my eyes
Your roommates I can't understand"

Our narrator is used to sticking to his routines, mostly that he's not much of a night owl but prefers to hit the hay early every night. However, on the night we meet him, those habits are beginning to be broken.

It's hard to tell exactly what's going on in these first couple of stanzas, but it's evident that there's suddenly something that our singer believes is worth staying up for.

"What's your favorite color
Falling for each other
And we ain't even met

I've only known your name for a week
But now I know your insecurities
And in a month you'll be telling me you love me
Through a screen

Quickly, we understand that his reason for staying up is the object of his adoration: a new crush that he's spending hour after hour getting to know... but he notes that they haven't met yet.

The pair have known each other a week and covered everything from favorite colors to deepest fears, but at the end of the chorus we realize that all of these conversations and revelations have taken place, where else but through FaceTime, a common way of forming relationships in the Year of Our Lord 2025.

"The night has slowly reached the end of its life
Close my eyes and tell you goodnight
I don't mind

'Cause tomorrow I'll be ringing
Ask what you were dreaming
Hoping it was me

Tell me what's your secret
Do you believe in love 'cause it seems

I've only known your name for a week
And now I know that I'm falling for you
Tell me how can that be
Through a screen"

Staying up late to talk about anything and everything under the sun, our narrator goes to sleep knowing that their never ending virtual dialogue will continue once the sun rises tomorrow.

Even though they've yet to meet in person, our singer can't deny these feelings that have formed–whether rooted in true connection or not–and admits to himself that he's falling head first for this girl.

We leave him questioning, though, how can something so deep and so strong form through nothing more than a little glass screen.

"I've only known your name for a week
And now I know that I'm falling for you
Tell me how can that be
How can that be
Tell me how can it be
Through a screen"

I usually don't stay up too late
Washed up and in bed by eight
But tonight had its own set of plans

The fight to stay awake has entered my mind
Small talk with bags on my eyes
Your roommates I can't understand

Tell me 'bout your mother
Do you have a brother
You smile, say yes

What's your favorite color
Falling for each other
And we ain't even met

I've only known your name for a week
But now I know your insecurities
And in a month you'll be telling me you love me
Through a screen

The night has slowly reached the end of its life
Close my eyes and tell you goodnight
I don't mind

'Cause tomorrow I'll be ringing
Ask what you were dreaming
Hoping it was me

Tell me what's your secret
Do you believe in love 'cause it seems

I've only known your name for a week
And now I know that I'm falling for you
Tell me how can that be
Through a screen

'Cause tomorrow I'll be ringing
Ask what you were dreaming
Hoping it was me

Tell me what's your secret
Do you believe in love 'cause it seems

I've only known your name for a week
And now I know that I'm falling for you
Tell me how can that be
How can that be
Tell me how can it be
Through a screen

Who knows where this leads
I can't make you any guarantees
All I can say
Is I'll be there when you decide
To call my name
