Hudson Westbrook - 'Texas Forever'

Label: RiverHouse Artists

Release Date: May 30th, 2025

Songwriters: Hudson Westbrook, Neil Medley & Andrew DeRoberts

Producers: Lukas Scott

The Background:

Country music's most buzzed about newcomer, Hudson Westbrook, has had a whirlwind last 12 months or so dating back to the release of his breakout, debut single, 'Take It Slow.'

Soaking in the limelight from one release to the next ever since – including his debut radio single, 'House Again,' and the viral offerings of 'Sober,' '5 to 9,' 'Dressed Down' and more – the burgeoning artist is finally making it official with the news that his debut record, Texas Forever, is on its way for July 25.

Alongside the news, one of the Lone Star State's finest also released a moving ode to love, longevity and his home state with the project's poignant title track.

The Sound:

Penned by Westbrook alongside Neil Medley & Andrew DeRoberts, 'Texas Forever' was produced by his trusty collaborator Lukas Scott.

The slow-rolling tune finds Westbrook surrounded by an orchestra of acoustic stringed instruments, from guitars and mandolins to a chilling fiddles. As ever, Westbrook's southern-singed drawl is strong and steady across the tune, letting his nasally vocals take centerstage, seamlessly blending neotraditional and red dirt country with a sleek mainstream sheen.

The Meaning:

"Some people get lucky sometimes and it’s gone just like that
Every time I leave your house, I take one more look back
Well, the highway’s in my veins, but you’ll always have my heart
Don’t know where it’ll take me, but please don’t fall apart"

A simple country ballad, Westbrook ponders on love and relationships, explaining how sometimes luck has its way and it all works out while other times it all falls apart in an insant.

Noting that he's a bit of a rambling soul, namely due to chasing the neon rainbow of being a country star, he treasures the love he's found in his partner and shares that even though the highway calls him, she'll always have his heart.

It's a hard life out on the road and he never knows where he'll end up, but he's pleading that their love is strong enough to last through it all.

"‘Cause there’s some things that don’t change like the red letters in the scripture
There’s some things that don’t fade when the sun shines on the picture
Those guarantees what's meant to be always go together
Like hearts and sleeves, wild and free, you and me, and Texas forever"

While there's plenty of things in the world that evolve, fade and change over time, Westbrook holds steady in the fact that there's plenty of things that don't change, and he and his beloved will be one of them.

Similar to the words of Jesus in the Bible or the great state of Texas, time won't have an effect on their love, but will only make them stronger and more meaningful.

"Where we grew up fell in love is forever in my bones
Fort Worth nights, your blue eyes, will always be my home"

Drawing comparisons to his beloved home state and the love of his life, we discover that this pair of love birds grew up together and fell in love as kids.

Because of that, both Texas and this woman will always be important to him and he'll always find solace and a home in them.

"There’s some things that don’t change like the red letters in the scripture
There’s some things that don’t fade when the sun shines on the picture
Those guarantees what's meant to be always go together
Like hearts and sleeves, wild and free, you and me, and Texas forever"

What has Hudson Westbrook said about 'Texas Forever'?

Hudson Westbrook first teased the lone star soliloquy on May 19, taking to Instagram to say "My favorite song I've written so far..."

Excitingly, the new tune seems to be joined by an even bigger announcement and one that we've been waiting on for quite some time from the young Texan tunesmith as he unveiled that his debut record will be coming later this year.

"“I’m so proud of this record,” Westbrook shared. “I love Texas, it’s shaped so much about who I am. We wrote 50-60 songs for this project and narrowed it down to 17 that I think really represent where I am in my life right now and what I love making as an artist: songs that sound like where I grew up, but read like something that just about anyone could relate to.”

Already boasting a sprawling list of quickly beloved singles and fan-favorites, the project is expected to include previous releases like the forlorn 'Weatherman,' sensual 'Dressed Down,' flirty 'Sober' and plenty more.
