Graham Barham doubled down on his country-trap fusion with ‘OIL MONEY’, which arrived in February 2025 and is already showing signs of blossoming into his biggest hit to date.
In the 24 hours following its release, ‘OIL MONEY’ amassed an impressive half a million streams on Spotify, with the EP of the same name surging to No. 1 on the Country iTunes chart.
It finds the Louisiana native channelling the vibe of Taylor Sheridan's 2025 TV series, Landman, by describing how a woman he's spending time with makes him feel as though he's oil rich.
While Graham Barham has always incorporated the rattling hi-hats and thumping 808s of Trap, ‘OIL MONEY’ finds him venturing further into this world than he's been before. Barham layers his vocals across the infectious hook, sending an extra jolt of energy coursing through each line, with his reverb-laden, swaggering delivery accentuating the playful braggadocio and flirtatious ambience of ‘OIL MONEY’.
“Said she went to SMU
Tattoo of a crescent moon
I said I was only headed through
Dallas for a night or two
She said maybe we should rendezvous
Baby somewhere they got 90 proof
Tell me, what was I supposed to do
That little thing in Daisy Dukes was”
The curtain opens on Graham Barham meeting a woman who used to be a student at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, before she tempts him to extend his stay and spend some time together in a bar with plenty of strong, 90-proof whiskey on offer.
“Copper tone from head to Tony Lamas
I don't know if she got a heart of gold
But I know one thing's for sure”
Graham Barham compliments the woman's tan, portraying her as being ‘copper tone’ from her head to her toes - or rather, from her head to her expensive Tony Lama boots.
“She got a body like oil money
Cartier cross around her neck 'cause she
Only ever seen the kind of club country
House in the Gulf where it's always sunny
Little tan line honey
She's everything you need and she's got everything she wants
Showing off 'til the lights come on
I'm a rich man with my hands on that body like oil money”
It's not 100% clear exactly what specific kind of correlation Graham Barham is drawing between ‘oil money’ and the woman's body, but the general gist is that he loves the way she moves. Why this would be particularly akin to oil money, we're not quite sure, but the metaphor captures the broader sense of luxury and excess that pervades the track. As he lists a few of the qualities he admires about her, Barham concludes by praising the way the woman makes him feel like he's a rich oil tycoon.
“She don't need the drip or the whip or the Louis Vuitton
She could look bougee with a Bottomland hoodie on
She a little Stagecoach
Little Coachella
Little bit Kylie, little bit Bella”
Barham champions how the woman he's flirting with looks ‘bougee’ - i.e. classy - regardless of whether she's donning Louis Vuitton or a simple Mossy Oak Bottomland camo hoodie. He appreciates how nimbly she flits between a ‘city-ish’ persona that feels suited to Coachella Festival and a more countrified demeanour, like Coachella's much-loved sister event, Stagecoach Festival. He extends this duality by comparing his flame to both Kylie Jenner, who resides in Los Angeles, and Bella Hadid, who has now cemented herself within the country world. In 2024, Hadid won the 2024 National Cutting Horse Association's rookie gong, and appeared in Taylor Sheridan's non-oil-themed cowboy series, Yellowstone.
Graham Barham is yet to delve into the creative process behind ‘OIL MONEY’, but he did quip in a TikTok video in late January that, “I think I just wrote the Landman theme song!”
