A 15-year-old country prodigy from Hermitage, Tennessee, no one can deny Maddox Batson has been making serious waves in the music scene with his recent releases. His debut single, 'Tears in the River,' garnered significant attention, climbing the Country Viral Top 50 and amassing over 200 million views in just five months upon its release last year.
Since then, Batson's released his debut EP, First Dance, which featured the viral track 'Girl In Green'. I mean, what are we talking about, essentially each of the songs Batson has released have gone stratospheric.
He had been teasing that more music was on the horizon, hinting at an album release before the end of 2025. That now seems to certainly be on the cards with the release of his brand new single, 'No More'.
A catchy blend of ambient-atmosphere synths, muted electric guitar and pinch-tight drum fills, this is possibly both his most vulnerable and catchiest song yet. Batson's vocal is elongated, gently bathed in a deep echo to really hit home the battle of being a teenager and going through the rollercoaster of first loves and the rush of emotion that comes with it. Sonically, it's got later-era Bieber / 1975 vibes, just without the drug references and crippling obsession with being chronically online.
Where Batson's previous singles have verged more on the falling helplessly in love in the south that Morgan Wallen would tip his cap to, 'No More' leaves behind the quippy twists on titles for something much more forthright, and it's a turn that works.
"I told myself I wasn’t gonna live another lie
I wasn’t gonna let another girl waste my time
If you don’t want me
Acting like you don’t need
Me around then girl around is where I won’t be"
Our buddy hasn't had too much luck with the ladies so far, and just when he thought he might've found the one, she goes and changes her mind too. Just when he said he wasn't going to let it happen, there he goes. This time though, it's different - he's not going to hang around hoping she changes her mind.
"Hard to figure out baby where it all went wrong
It’s like I’m talking to a ghost that’s already gone
Yea I miss you, but I won’t let you back
promised myself this time would be the last"
Sounds like the lady in question has been vacant and missing in action for a while–even while with our leading guy. He's not afraid to admit that he's hurt by the change, and wishes it was different, but, much like his idol lined them up and knocked them back, he's not going to give in and hurt himself even further, he's moving on.
"You wanna fake it
Imma take it to somebody who will keep it safe
You’re gonna hate that I ain’t chasing you
You coulda fixed it
Built it back with stitches
But girl you quit it
And now you’ll never get it"
We're going to really try and avoid the Wham! 'Last Christmas' references here. Our protagonist is picking himself up and has found his confidence boost. He knows she'll be missing him when he's not around, and he knows that things could've been different if she'd put that effort in. If she doesn't want to, that's fine–he's moving on.
On July 31, Maddox went and dropped the music video early to his YouTube channel. The dude is out driving a boat, riding what looks like a wind-dingy and fishing–safe to say I think he's pretty over the lady in question.
For the video, Batson stated, "This is the first music video I came up with the idea for. 'No More' is about moving on... aka getting over heartbreak by doing what any reasonable person would do hang out with my friends, act dumb, and have the best time ever.
Seeing my vision come to life was wild, and I hope you guys enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed filming it."

Yea I miss you, but I won’t let you back
promised myself this time would be the last
You ain’t breaking it no more
Can’t call my heart yours
First you act like you need it
Then you leave me in pieces on the floor
I hope you know that I wish you well
Was Fallin’ harder than I’ve ever fell
Done it too many times before
But you ain’t breaking it no more
You wanna fake it
Imma take it to somebody who will keep it safe
You’re gonna hate that I ain’t chasing you
