Since the release of his debut single, 'LOW ROAD', former Michigan basketball player-turned-viral TikToker Adrien Nunez has been steadily churning out hits, like his recent Avery Anna collaboration and the forthcoming 'APOLOGY SONG.'
However, it was the October release of 'MINNESOTA' that truly secured the burgeoning artist's star status, unveiling to fans his scorned side.
'MINNESOTA', much like the state from which it takes its name, can be chilling, the stark, thundering number brought to life by distant rhythms and silvery strings. Much of the song is carried on a crisp backbeat and bolstered by scratchy strums and resounding electrics, all sharp and rumbling like bitterness through a broken heart.
I know you're lying, baby, who are you lying to?
Am I the one or just another one to lose?
'Cause what you're telling us both can't be the truth
I know you're lying, baby, who are you lying to?
'MINNESOTA' finds Nunez jilted, wronged and rejected by someone he thought he had a connection with.
The song opens on confrontation, with the artist pointing fingers and placing blame, after having discovered his lover with another. Throughout the tune, he sings of lies and questions the sincerity of the relationship they shared.
He spends much of the song wondering where it all went awry and what drove them into another person's arm. Everything seemed fine – he recounts, "Yeah, I flew you out to L.A. / Usually don't but let you kiss me at the bar / Didn't leave my side for three days / You were sleeping in my arms" – until it suddenly wasn't.
Next thing I know, you're
Up in Minnesota
All up on his shoulders
Taking pictures on the sideline
Did you tell that guy what we did last night?
After a pleasant time together spent glued at the hip, Nunez soon discovers his person has visited the titular state to be with some other guy. He demands answers, singing in the pre-chorus again, "I know you're lying, baby, who are you lying to?" Him or the other man?
The singer is left to wonder the truth, questioning motives and meanings, dissecting every little thing, and feeling like his head's been messed with and his heart's been played.
I know you're lying, baby, who are you lying to?
I know you're lying, baby, who are you lying to?
Am I the one or just another one to lose?
'Cause what you're telling us both can't be the truth
I know you're lying, baby, who are you lying to?
Yeah, I flew you out to L.A.
Usually don't but let you kiss me at the bar
Didn't leave my side for three days
You were sleeping in my arms
Next thing I know, you're

'Cause what you'rе telling us both can't be the truth
I know you'rе lying, baby, who are you lying to?
Oh, who you are you lying to?
Oh, who you are you lying to?
Yeah, you know what's really crazy?
Now you doing what you said he did to you
Bet you hear this song and hate me
But at least I'm telling the truth
Yeah, did you mean it
When you were telling me that
You could really see, yeah
We were walking down Sunset looking at the sunset
Messing with my head
I know you're lying, baby, who are you lying to?
Am I the one or just another one to lose?
'Cause what you're telling us both can't be the truth
I know you're lying, baby, who are you lying to?
Oh, who you are you lying to?
Oh, who you are you lying to?
Next thing I know, you're
Up in Minnesota

Oh, who you are you lying to?
Oh, who you are you lying to?
Oh, who you are you lying to?
Oh, who you are you lying to?
