Maddox Batson - 'Girl In Green'

Release Date: March 21, 2025

Album: First Dance EP

Songwriters: Maddox Batson, Peter Fenn and Sam Romans

Producer: Peter Fenn

The Background:

The wait is over. Rising star Maddox Batson's debut EP, First Dance, has arrived. With it, so has a handful more tunes, set to join already well-loved hits like 'X's' and 'Southbound'.

Among this fresh batch is 'Girl In Green'. The young artist has been faithfully teasing bits of the new pop-fueled ballad across social media. Now, the infectious tune has been unveiled, another of his songs officially let loose to take over country music once again.

The Sound:

Following the tried-and-true country-pop formula, 'Girl In Green' opens with sweeping atmospherics, layered with spacey synths and peppered with snappy 808s throughout. The tune barely whispers with a twang – what little of it crops up in the chorus – perhaps making 'Girl In Green' more of an all-out pop offering than merely a blend of both.

The Meaning:

"Knew she had blonde hair, blue eyes, sun kissed tan lines
Man she was lookin’ real fine
Knew she was from Kansas City where the girls real pretty
Man, really wish she was mine"

'Girl In Green' finds Maddox Batson struck by Cupid, having fallen head over heels for a young lady he only briefly glimpsed. He knows she has blonde hair, blue eyes and tan lines, but the thing that stuck out to him the most was what she was wearing. Or rather, the color she donned.

Like the typical Cinderella story, though, she was there one minute and then she was gone, with the young artist – not unlike the tale's very own Prince Charming – left to search for this mysterious girl in green.

In the song, he seems to be asking anyone who will listen:

"Tell me have you seen
The girl in green
Felt like a movie, guess it could’ve been a dream
Man it was a shame
Didn’t catch her name
I been lookin’ for her ever since she walked away
Runnin’ through my mind
Runnin’ through my head
Haven’t been the same since the night we met..."

In the chorus, Batson begins to question whether or not she even exists, wondering if it was a movie moment or perhaps something that came to him in a dream. Still, he persists, unwilling to give up on another chance with that girl in green.

"Tell me have you seen
Mmmm
Have you seen
The girl in the green"

Knew she had blonde hair, blue eyes, sun kissed tan lines
Man she was lookin’ real fine
Knew she was from Kansas City where the girls real pretty
Man, really wish she was mine

She got me like oooh, where you been
Stepped out the room
Been lookin’ for her ever since

Tell me have you seen
The girl in green
Felt like a movie, guess it could’ve been a dream
Man it was a shame
Didn’t catch her name
I been lookin’ for her ever since she walked away
Runnin’ through my mind
Runnin’ through my head
Haven’t been the same since the night we met
Tell me have you seen
Mmmm
Have you seen
The girl in the green

She said I had good vibes, soft eyes, bright lights
Made me wanna kiss her in front of everyone
She was here for one night, one time, something got me tongue tied
Turned around and she was gone

She got me like oooh, where you been
Stepped out the room
Been lookin’ for her ever since

Tell me have you seen
The girl in green
Felt like a movie, guess it could’ve been a dream
Man it was a shame
Didn’t catch her name
I been lookin’ for her ever since she walked away
Runnin’ through my mind
Runnin’ through my head
Haven’t been the same since the night we met
Tell me have you seen
Mmmm
