American Eagle are continuing their foray into the country music world, with the trailblazing outfitters following up their link-up with Ella Langley by teaming up with Bailey Zimmerman.

The ‘New to Country’ hitmaker has curated a special “favourites” collection from American Eagle’s latest drop, with Zimmerman choosing a range of items that epitomises his signature blend of classic country and a more contemporary, Hip Hop-influence aesthetic. Expect to find old-school trucker jackets, but with a boxy, current twist, alongside sleek brown jeans. It doesn’t get more country than a good ol’ pair of jeans, right? Right. But Zimmerman’s American Eagle curation ensures their jeans feel modern by opting for a baggy, loose-fitting look.

American Eagle is cementing itself at the forefront of today's wave of country-leaning fashion, striking a satisfying balance between nostalgic look-books and forward-facing designs.

With a dizzying array of styles to choose from amid Zimmerman’s new “Faves” drop, we’ve tested out a selection of items and picked our top five must-haves from the collection.

1. AE Denim Trucker Jacket (Black)

We love a good trucker jacket. But with a lot of trucker jackets out there at the moment, the fit is a little too slim and it makes the piece seem dated, rather than intentionally vintage but still modern. Which is why we’re really vibing with American Eagle’s Black Denim Trucker Jacket at the moment. It has that oversized look - a must in today’s scene - but combines this with a boxy, slightly cropped body.

This gives it great versatility - you can go casual with a hoodie or graphic tee underneath, or you can dress it up with a simple black tee or a smart shirt. The boxy fit makes it feel inherently styled and smarter than, say, a looser, baggier alternative, while the oversized silhouette gives it a fresh, contemporary and streetwear-friendly look, too.

Jean shorts can be tricky - again, sometimes they’re too fitted. But ever since seeing these Light Wash Loose Jean Shorts, we’ve been counting down the days until the warmer months.

They offer a more casual and relaxed alternative to tailored shorts, and combine perfectly with a plain or graphic tee, maybe a zip-up hoodie, too. They hold their shape, which is hugely importance with jean shorts, and they’re also really, really comfortable.

Comfort has always been something that American Eagle know how to do exceedingly well, and these shorts epitomise that, being made with smooth, soft-stretch denim.

Anyone that’s seen Zimmerman perform live knows it doesn’t take much for the Louisiana native to get hyped and active on–stage, and these shorts are the perfect choice if you’re going to be running around and breaking a sweat, but want to look cool doing it.

When we’re picking out a new pair of jeans, the key elements we’re thinking about are the silhouette and how comfortable they are. American Eagle have nailed both with these Brown EasyFlex Baggy Jeans, and we’ve gone for the Coffee colourway.

Of course, blue and black jeans are staples of any wardrobe, but we just love the outfit flexibility this deep brown option gives us. If you wear the black trucker jacket, for instance, while blue and black jeans go great, this colourway just gives it an extra pop and makes it feel a little more unique. As we said, the silhouette is fantastic, with the loose-fitting style giving this a contemporary feel. The EasyFlex Denim holds its shape, much like the jean shorts, while staying immensely comfortable.

Honestly, since putting these on, it’s been difficult to look elsewhere when it comes to jeans. You can countrify the look with a flannel shirt, or keep it city-sleek with a monochrome tee.

4. AE Boxy Fit Textured Flannel Shirt (Navy)

Whenever we pull up to a festival, the first sign that it’s country hits you as soon as you see the attendees - a sea of flannel, and a few cowboy hats and boots for good measure. But it’s easy to go wrong with flannel, and dress down a look too much by making it feel like an uber-casual working shirt, rather than an intentional style choice.
