Post Malone has single handedly taken over the country genre since he began teasing that his debut country record was on its way.
With blockbuster singles that included 'I Had Some Help' with Morgan Wallen, 'Pour Me A Drink' with Blake Shelton and 'Guy For That' alongside Luke Combs, the stage was set for the highly-anticipated release of F-1 Trillion.
Already notching a hefty 18 songs, the standard version of the project includes features with the likes of Sierra Ferrell, Chris Stapleton, Lainey Wilson and a running list of the who's who in the genre. However, in the middle of the album's release day on August 16, Post Malone shocked fans yet again with the news that he had an expanded version of the album up his sleeve.
With an additional nine songs, F-1 Trillion - Long Bed consists of song's solely from the genre-blending hitmaker. What it may lack in guest vocals, though, it makes up for in substance and style.
One of the newly added songs, 'Fallin' In Love,' is a simply country diddy that talks about exactly what you'd think, but with a heaping dose of Post Malone's signature charm and charisma.
With a vintage electric guitar ushering us in, 'Fallin' In Love' is a lighthearted take on the joys – and perhaps pitfalls – that come with diving in head first with a romantic partner.
At times taking on a sound similar to a jaunty Texas swing band, the track was produced by Louis Bell & Charlie Handsome, who both also had a hand in the song's prose. Also credited on the track are Post, Rocky Block, Josh Thompson and one of our favorite country wordsmiths, ERNEST.
“You weren't looking for me
I wasn't looking for you
That's the thing about love
It's gonna do what it do
I've never been the scientific type
There's a force going on, girl, that I can't deny”
We meet Post Malone talking to his supposed love interest, frankly stating the obvious that neither of them planned for this to happen. As we've come to know, love will do and choose whoever it wants, whether we want it to or not.
Explaining that he's never been one to subscribe to the myths, mysteries and theories behind science, he can't deny that there is some sort of divine force bringing them together and there's nothing they can do about it.
“Yeah, you can't stop me from fallin'
Stop me from fallin' in love
And you can't stop me from fallin'
Stop me from fallin' in love”
The chorus, while simple and a bit repetitive, underpins the fact that no matter how hard his parter may try to fight it or change it, Post is destined to fall head over heels for her.
“Try to knock me off my feel-good horse
Can't get in the way of nature running it's course
Hey, what goes up, baby, must come down
I keep on falling when I hit the ground”
Though she may try to kill his buzz or prevent him from following his heart when it comes to this relationship, Malone reiterates that there's no use as it's as wasted effort.
Once again hinting at a scientific fact, namely that what goes up must come down, he cheekily explains that even once he's hit the cold, hard floor, he'll still be falling in love with her even more.
"You can stop me from leaving
Stop me from running
You can stop this from turning into something"
As we near the song's close, in an attempt to comfort his love interest, Malone shares a few things that she can, in fact, stop... though none of them involve diminishing his affections for her.
Post Malone has not spoken about 'Fallin' In Love’ specifically just yet, but the New York native has touched more broadly on how welcoming the country music community has been to him since he announced his foray into the genre.
In an interview with Anthony Mason for CBS in Nashville, the ‘Chemical’ singer-songwriter shared, “Everyone here was so accepting and kind.” When Mason described this as a testament to Malone's genial, warm character, Posty immediately responded with an endearing dismissal, “I disagree. I think it's a testament to them.”
