With his sophomore album done and dusted, Bailey Zimmerman has been steadily teasing some of the tunes that are still to come from the hyped hitmaker.
His most recent of which came by way of 'Comin' In Cold.' For weeks, he has faithfully taunted the tune across social media, as well as debuted it during his massive Sand in My Boots set. Now, the new single is finally here.
The scathing song joins previous releases, like his Luke Combs-assisted 'Back Up Plan' and his full throttle 'New to Country,' which are all set to appear on the forthcoming follow-up to his acclaimed debut, Religiously. The Album.
"All of this new music that y’all are about to hear is some of my best work yet," he has said of the upcoming project. "It feels so real and so true to what my life has been the last 2 years."
In that time, the young artist has climbed the ranks of country music heavyweights, but he has also openly been on the lookout for love. 'Comin' In Cold' is the result of such an experience.
Born from layers of chilling harmonies at the start, 'Comin' In Cold' really comes to life in a trickle of deft strings and a heart-pounding rhythm. From there, it doesn't take long for the song to bloom into a hard-hitting, twanged-fueled anthem. Full of searing steel and carried on a bold beat throughout, the arrangement emphasizes the tune's earnest message.
"She’s a little miss reckless
Trainwreck in a red dress
She’s all up in my head
And my guess is she’ll show up here tonight
Lookin’ for a tab to put some trouble on ice"
Since the beginning of his country career, Bailey Zimmerman has been direct about his love life and search for a wife. According to him, he's been relatively unlucky in his quest toward matrimony and 'Comin' In Cold' touches on that misadventure, perhaps pinpointing the very reason for his misfortune.
In the song, he credits his poor choices and the woman, red flags and all, that he can't seem to stop chasing. Throughout 'Comin' In Cold', we meet said person, someone Zimmerman immediately introduces as "reckless" and a "trainwreck."
He's often anticipating a run-in with the woman, which he knows very well will only lead to trouble and end in pain.
"Speak of the devil
She must’ve heard me thinkin’ bout her
‘Cause here she comes and there I go
Different night, same rodeo
I know I know better
But I’ve got a way of holdin’ on
To the ones that let me go
Set me on fire, put me out like smoke
She’s a heartbreak comin’ in cold"
As if on queue, she shows up wherever he is, poised to wreak havoc on his heart. While Zimmerman attests that he knows better – in the song, he sings, "She's everything I want, nothing that I need" – he can't seem to help it, finding himself in the same predicament again and again.
Listeners are never told what this woman's sins are, but the artist swears she's forever up to no good. He claims, "She's a neon nightmare, bet you think it's going somewhere / Yeah, she'll let you get right there / Then I swear she'll go and let you down / She's about to do it right now, yeah."
She may be trouble, leaving broken hearts in her wake, but perhaps Zimmerman is also the problem here. He should have learned by now that if you play with fire, you're only bound to get burned.

When Zimmerman debuted the song during his massive Sand in My Boots set in Gulf Shores, Alabama, the artist got a little personal with festival goers.
"This next song is really about how my life has been the last couple years," he shared with the crowd, detailing, "Everybody knows I've been on a pretty hard search for a wife. I've been looking for a wife for a long time and still haven't found her."
The upcoming track seems to be driven by experience, as he explained, "It seems like every single time I start to really like somebody or get into them, it just crashes. I'm starting to think it might be me actually. Am I the problem?"
He went on to note, before diving heart first into the tune, "I'm very honored to get to play this next song. It's about having this girl in my life that I can't seem to get away from, and she just keeps ruining it, man. She just keeps messing me up. If you got something like that in your life, this one goes out to you."

She’s a heartbreak comin’ in cold
She’s cold as that old river
And that late December rain
But nothing’s quite as cold
As the way she walks away
Speak of the devil
She must’ve heard me thinkin’ bout her
‘Cause here she comes and there I go
Different night, same rodeo
I know I know better
But I’ve got a way of holdin’ on
To the ones that let me go
Set me on fire, put me out like smoke
She’s a heartbreak comin’ in
She’s a heartbreak comin’ in cold
