Bailey Zimmerman - Chevy Silverado

Release Date: 1st August 2025

Produced by: Austin Shawn

Written by: Bailey Zimmerman, Gavin Lucas, Heath Warren, Ilsey Juber, Tucker Beathard

The Background:

As Bailey Zimmerman gears up to release his next album, ‘Different Night, Same Rodeo,’ on 8th August, the ‘Holy Smokes’ singer wanted to grace us with one more track. The track explores his personal story of his first truck which led to his first love and ultimately first heartbreak. It’s emotional but it’s loud - a true Bailey Zimmerman classic.

The Sound:

A simple beat and Zimmerman’s brooding voice, ‘Chevy Silverado’ is full of heartbreak, reflected in bluesy guitars and a crescendoing instrumental break. It’s on brand for his upcoming album and will leave fans scream-singing the lyrics as a form of group therapy at a live show.

The Meaning:

White Chevy Silverado

That I bought with money that I borrowed

And I, I can still remember

You kissing my lips and backing me up against the fender

Yeah, we got lost in that backseat 'fore this thing ran on memories

A couple dreams and some heartbreaking miles ago

Zimmerman introduces us to the main character immediately - his beloved first truck. And a truck of firsts it was - his first love and first heartbreak all wrapped up in four wheels. It seems so many of his memories were in it that the thing can run off those alone.

Help me out, tell me how'd your heart get so cold?

Tell me, when did our young love get so old?

Went from holding on tight to lettin' me go

I said I loved you, and I wish you never said it back

Take the sun-bleached Polaroid off my dash

I ain't got the girl in it, but I still have

This white Chevy Silverado

And it'll drive all night to get to you tomorrow

Fondly remembering the days of his young love, Zimmerman asks where it all went wrong. An unresolved break-up leaves him wondering what changed - how did they go from pictures on the dash to being over? Whatever happened, his love still burns strong and would take that same truck across the country to see her again.

And it would, if you said I should

A little love will get it running good

And there's some want-you-back horses waiting under the hood

And I'd love it, baby, if you could

He’s not let her go the way she’s let him go and, given one good reason, would fire his beloved chevy back up to go get her. Running off memories, love and dreams, Zimmerman is just waiting for the word to jump back in.

What has Bailey Zimmerman said about Chevy Silverado?:

Chevy Silverado seems to have had a last minute roll out, with the album dropping just a week after, but Zimmerman has been clear that it’s a personal story for him. He posted a picture of him at 16, with his drivers license in front of his new truck, captioning it: ““Chevy Silverado” is out now ❤️ and in honor of that here is a pic from 2016 on the day I got my drivers license. I borrowed $9,800 from my hometown bank to buy my grandpas 2005 white Chevy Silverado. I fell in love for the first time in this truck and as the story goes, I felt my heart break for the first time in this truck too. This song talks about all of that. Hope you guys love it”
