‘Box Me Up’ by BigXthaPlug & Jelly Roll - Lyrics & Meaning

One of the most highly anticipated songs on BigXthaPlug's debut country album, I Hope You're Happy, ‘Box Me Up’ features a blockbuster set of guest vocals from Jelly Roll.

Jelly, who hits the mark with an evocative, visceral delivery, is joined on the momentous record by a dizzying array of country stars, such as Darius Rucker, Luke Combs and more.

‘Box Me Up’ finds Jelly Roll taking the helm for a powerful, stirring chorus, with Jelly's sleek, raspy vocals gliding soulfully across an atmospheric, strings-driven instrumental.

BigXthaPlug's verses are as cascading and punchline-laden as ever, with the Texas hitmaker once again showcasing how comfortable he is putting his heart on his sleeve, rather than following many contemporaries in masking their pain with hedonism.

As is the case for much of I Hope You're Happy, BigXthaPlug spends ‘Box Me Up’ conveying just how heartbroken he feels. While Jelly Roll sings about a hypothetical instance where his love has departed, BigX raps about this having already happened. He describes a fresh wound, with the ‘Take Care’ maverick seeing no way out - but thankfully, on other tracks on the album, he manages to find a chink of light.
