Since it was unveiled that the upcoming Twisters movie had recruited the who's who of country music for the film's soundtrack, fans have been treated to some pretty cinematic singles.
Luke Combs' ripping 'Ain't No Love in Oklahoma,' Bailey Zimmerman's stormy 'Hell or High Water' and Megan Moroney's devastating 'Never Left Me' – these recent releases have all been very different but all equally blockbuster-worthy as they await their debut on the silver screen.
The latest addition, Tucker Wetmore's 'Already Had It,' is no different, the tune a searing breakup ballad fit for the movies.
Heatwave strings and a singeing beat give life to 'Already Had It,' the fiery arrangement the perfect foil for the song's biting words. From there, the tune ignites into a full-throttle foot-tapper, fueled by moaning steel and an attitude-fed rhythm that beautifully mirror the anthem's backhanded well-wishing.
"Yeah, I been thinking 'bout it for about a couple minutes
How you been gone for a couple months and what you're missing
I know the city's kinda pretty, but it ain't what you're used to (That's true)"
From the jump, 'Already Had It' hints at a breakup or the departure of someone significant. The artist takes a moment to ponder the months this person has been gone, seeking big city aspirations, and the things that they've missed in the interim.
"I bet you're posting pictures and checking if I'm looking," he guesses but doesn't seem bothered one bit because he's got better things to concern himself with, i.e. "there's a line with a bass I'm hooking / And come tomorrow, there's a whole buncha nothing that I gotta do (How 'bout you?)"
"Yeah, I hope that you're sitting in a high-rise apartment
Looking down at everything that you ever wanted
I'll be fine sipping a Yellow Jacket on an old podunk bank (That's just me)
You been looking for grass that grows a bit greener
But if you ask me, there ain't nothing sweeter
Than a county line sky, kissing dirt, flirting with a sunset"
He imagines this person enjoying the life they've built in their high-rise apartment and wonders if they've found where the grass grows greener. As for himself, he's happy as clam, sipping his Coors Banquet and enjoying his slow-paced country lifestyle.
It all sounds very cordial. The kicker, though, comes with the title lyric: "I'd wish you the best, but you already had it ..."
"You had the golden ticket, then you went off and ripped it
You had a man who was all in on you and country living
I hope you're liking looking at the trees growing through the concrete (Not me)"
He sings how this person traded a good love and a good life for something they believed was better. They had their "best song" and their "best dance," "the best damn thing you could ever have." Now, it's all gone and if ever they decide they want it all back, the artist sings "that's too bad 'cause you already had it."
"I'd wish you the best, but you already had it"
Tucker Wetmore hasn't gone into great detail about his new tune, only taking to social media to share his excitement.
"GUYS THIS IS SO FRICKEN COOL!" he said of 'Already Had It' upon its release, detailing, "I wrote this one for the new @twistersmovie and I can’t be more honored to be a part of the @twistersthealbum."
The caption accompanied a reel of himself singing and grooving along to the anthem in a post he capped off with: "This is gonna be so sick."
