Country music has always had a way of taking everyday turns of phrase and spinning them into something magical. Whether it’s Megan Moroney’s ‘Nothin’ Crazy’ or Luke Combs’ ‘When It Rains It Pours,’ there’s no shortage of inspiration for country singers in the words the rest of us use without even thinking. There is something particularly clever about the deceptively simple sometimes.
How many times have you texted “same” to someone and thought nothing of it? Troy Cartwright has taken that seemingly trivial reply and written a country classic around the word.
"It’s a song about missing somebody and hoping they feel the same,” Troy Cartwright told us. “For me, it's like a movie. A literal daydream where the person you're missing calls to check in and the conversation goes exactly the way you wished it would."
Released back in May, the song now has a brilliantly creative video to go with it.
"The music video for 'Same' all stemmed from an idea around my kitchen table between myself, my wife Mary Lu, and the director Brooks Barry,” Cartwright told us. “We tried to think outside the box and make something that felt fun and fresh and I'm so proud of the way it turned out."
The music video for ‘Same’ is premiering exclusively on Holler below.
Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Troy Cartwright has garnered over 115 million streams to date, with 2023 being his highest streaming success - reaching over a million streams every single week so far this year.
As a songwriter signed to Big Machine Publishing, Cartwright has written songs recorded by Ryan Hurd, Josh Abbott Band, Nickelback, and several other cuts by chart-topping artists coming later this fall.
Having already shared the stage with acts like HARDY, LANCO, and one of his songwriting heroes, Hayes Carll, Cartwright sets out on his headlining Unlove You Tour Part 1 Tour this fall hitting major cities such as Chicago, St. Louis, and his hometown of Dallas.
