Last month The Deslondes released their latest album Roll It Out. A collection of 13 life affirming new songs recorded at the Bombshelter in East Nashville and produced by Andrija Tokic and the band that's been hogging our Holler turntable since it came out.

One of the highlights from Roll It Out was 'Old Plank Road,' written by Dan Cutler from the band. A light-hearted country jug band ode to the clubs and bars of the band's early days and the simpler times they shared starting out that ends on a wistful note, wondering if they lost something somewhere along the way as they try to make their way back to it somehow.

"Where we're heading now I don't know," they sing towards the song's end. "Is there something better down the line?"

"There’s a bar in New Orleans. It’s very dark, it’s got no windows and it never closes," Cutler explained about how the song came about. "It’s full of ghosts that sometimes will keep you there until the sun is high in the sky. If you’re lucky, the ghosts may also provide you with some wisdom or perspective and you’ll leave there better than when you came in. Old Plank Road is an ode to that place, and others like it."

Today, on the eve of their tour with Shannon & The Clams, The Deslondes unveil a suitably fun packed video for 'Old Plank Road' directed by Bobbie Wernig and starring the brilliant Jonny Fritz as a blundering TV presenter.

Roll It Out is their first album with new drummer Howe Pearson (previously a touring member for Hurray for the Riff Raff) and also features guest vocals by Twain (Mat Davidson) and horn arrangements by Tuba Skinny, as the band recapture the enthusiasm and energy of their early days while they reflect on the new perspective of age and maturity.

“This band feels like the old family farm,” says Sam Doores. “It’s a place where we can meet for the Fourth of July, bring our families, grill some burgers, and make some music together. It’s always going to be there, and we know it’s going to work and feel good.”

After more than 15 years together, four albums, and countless live shows, the five members have found new inspiration in the ties that bind them together as friends and collaborators, as something close to kin. That sense of comfort and commitment animates Roll It Out, lending it a quiet poignancy as they reflect on what it means to devote yourself to other people - whether it’s family, friends, audiences, or other guys in the tour van with you.

The Deslondes will launch more tour dates with Shannon & The Clams tomorrow night in Los Angeles, CA. The band will be on the road throughout the end of the year with touring currently scheduled to end at the Brooklyn Folk Fest in Brooklyn, NY.
