During his momentous headline set on the final day of Railbird Festival 2024, Chris Stapleton made one particular fan's achievement extra special by signing their high school diploma.
Early in his performance, Stapleton noticed an attendee waving a piece of paper at him with a sign at the front of the packed-out Red Mile crowd. When he discerned that it was a diploma, the bearded crooner then instructed his security to bring it for him to sign.
It's safe to say the ‘Think I'm In Love With You’ singer-songwriter has seen a lot in his storied career so far, but Stapleton joked at Railbird that he'd never signed someone's diploma before. "That's too weird man, thank you" Stapleton joked before signing. After reading the graduate's name, he declared, "that certifies I'm going to sign this shit right now"
It was a sweet moment that showcased the playfulness and levity that fans don't always get to see, with Chris Stapleton not usually chatting at length in-between songs.
Even so, he still let the music do most of the talking, with the Kentucky hitmaker's home-state set overflowing with fan-favourites, such as ‘Parachute’, ‘Millionaire’ and ‘Starting Over’.
Each drew a raucous response from the crowd, which stretched on long into Lexington night, but the biggest reaction was saved for Stapleton's grand finale - ‘Tennessee Whiskey’.
Railbird Festival closed up last night following two days of bourbon, rain and incredible music.
