Noeline Hofmann, the singer-songwriter behind Zach Bryan's Great American Bar Scene hit 'Purple Gas', will soon unveil even more of her striking artistry on her own debut.
Her premiere EP, titled Purple Gas, will arrive on October 4 and will feature her version of the title track, as well as the popular duet version from Bryan's release, alongside a sampling of her other soon-to-be classic works.
A daughter of the Canadian prairie, Hofmann's Purple Gas finds the rising star drawing inspiration from her native Alberta where she has worked in honky-tonks and herded cattle across its plains.
Her latest offering 'August', which arrived today (Aug. 27) alongside the news of her forthcoming EP, is the perfect example of what's to come from Purple Gas.
“I wrote this song after experiencing heartbreak and tragedy year after year within the month of August," the artist shared of the track. "The hardest losses to cope with were fatal farming accidents."
She continued, "Where I’m from, the month of August means the end of the growing season, the beginning of harvest, and preparation for the impending winter - pulling bulls, and hauling bales. The song comes from the experience of dealing with grief and its annual ghosts in an isolated setting. The unsettling feeling of being on the verge of an unwelcome transition but with no tangible sign of it looming - bracing within the stillness of August’s weather.”
The EP's October release will find the artist in the midst of a North American trek, acting as support for Ryan Bingham, Turnpike Troubadours, Colter Wall and more, while bringing songs like 'August' to amphitheatres and civic centers all autumn long.
