Garth Brooks has been accused of sexual assault and battery by a newly filed lawsuit.
The complaint was filed by a "Jane Roe", who claims to have worked as a hairstylist and makeup artist for the 'The Dance' singer and his wife Trisha Yearwood, on Thursday (Oct. 3). The suit alleges Roe was raped by the artist while on a work trip in 2019, which reportedly involved travelling via private jet to a Grammy tribute in LA.
According to the suit, Garth Brooks booked a single suite in Los Angeles with one bedroom and appeared in the doorway naked, before carrying out the alleged attack. Roe's lawsuit states that, on another occasion, while the two were at his home in Tennessee, Brooks had grabbed her hands and put them on his genitals.
According to CNN, Brooks reportedly attempted to block the lawsuit prior to its filing, submitting a separate document, under the name "John Doe", denying the allegations.
First hired in 1999 to style Yearwood, Roe began working for Brooks in 2017. The suit also reportedly accuses the musician of instances of indecent exposure, sending inappropriate text messages and making sexually explicit remarks.
Last evening (October 3), Garth Brooks released a statement to the PA News agency addressing the allegations, “For the last two months, I have been hassled to no end with threats, lies, and tragic tales of what my future would be if I did not write a check for many millions of dollars. It has been like having a loaded gun waved in my face”.
He expanded, “Hush money, no matter how much or how little, is still hush money. In my mind, that means I am admitting to behaviour I am incapable of – ugly acts no human should ever do to another. I want to play music tonight. I want to continue our good deeds going forward. It breaks my heart these wonderful things are in question now”.
Brooks concluded, “I trust the system, I do not fear the truth, and I am not the man they have painted me to be”.
Litigation regarding this case started three weeks ago, in early September, with an anonymous suit being filed in Mississippi federal court, which was later revealed to be filed by Garth Brooks. The ‘Friends in Low Places’ artist alleged that Jane Roe's accusations came as a result of him refusing her employment and related benefits. This pre-emptive suit denied her allegations as “revulsive and untrue”.
Jane Roe's 27-page legal action was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday, October 3rd.
