Get ready to cut a rug. JD Clayton has unveiled a brand new single, taking listeners for a spin with the country rock ballad, 'Dance Another Dance.'
The tune, which arrived today (Friday, September 6), joins the first trickle of new music since the release of his acclaimed debut, Long Way From Home, in 2023. This new self-produced track is just another dose of the sharpened skills and singular talent that made fans fall in love with the 'Brown Haired Blue Eyed Baby' artist.
At first a slow-burning guitar-led number, 'Dance Another Dance' erupts into a guttural anthem about unrequited love and second chances.
Against a slinky arrangement, one punctuated by neon-tinted keys and crisp cymbal strikes, 'Dance Another Dance' tells a story, one the singer-songwriter witnessed firsthand.
“In my early Nashville years, I worked for a trucking logistics company up in the L&C tower on the 15th floor,” he shares of the inspiration behind the new tune. “I had a cousin who worked for the company too and she was in love with the office manager. All the guys would tease the manager about the romance and try to get him to take my cousin out on a date.”
The manager, however, never made his move, and so Clayton’s cousin made hers. She moved to Colorado.
Realizing his mistake, the manager soon boarded a flight to the Centennial State to get her back. “A couple of years later I sang the first dance at their wedding,” Clayton continued. “I wrote ‘Dance Another Dance’ for them. Sometimes you need to just ask for a second chance and hopefully, the person you love will give it to you.”
'Dance Another Dance' joins the previously released single 'High Hopes & Low Expectations'. Clayton will likely be playing these tunes and more while out on his first headline tour, a trek that will see the star take on lounges and clubs across the United States through the fall.
