Fancy Hagood kickstarted the Holler Saloon Stage at the C2C Festival in London on Friday afternoon (3/8).
Debuting new songs such as 'The Chase' and 'American Spirit' from his forthcoming new project, Hagood gave an insight into his bond with the Osborne family, including brothers TJ and John, who is producing his new album, as well as their sister Natalie Osborne, who manages Fancy.
Opening up about working with them, he told the crowd at a packed out stage hosted by Alyssa Bonagura; "I'm like their red-headed step brother". "John and TJ are both good friends of mine and it just feels so good to be creating with people who get it musically but also personally" Hagood continued. "My house got hit by a tornado and I moved in with John and his wife Lucie for a while, It's a very tight knit family. It's so special to be close to someone you look up to on a personal note and obviously also John is a guitar god".
Performing new single 'Southern Sound', he told the crowd: "We're leaning all the way into country music. As a queer person I've never really known my footing in Nashville or where my music will be received. I feel like I'm getting this renaissance of my original dream of moving into Nashville and being a country artist".
The Arkansas-born signer also opened up about his journey to becoming an independent artist after the release of his debut album, Southern Curiosity, in April 2021. "It's really freeing to be able to make the music I want to make, how I want to make it, and when I want to release it. I've been on huge labels and had giant managers. When you're on a roster with Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande and they're number one and two and you're number 29 on the pop charts it doesn't look special. But that's pretty special to me".
Hagood is the first of 13 acts appearing on the Holler Saloon Stage, with Matt Koziol, Angel White, Carter Faith and many more to come over the three days.
