Toxic relationships are like little black clouds that hang over us, showering us with droplets of darkness and soaking us through with anxiety and confusion. Moving out from beneath one and stepping out into the light is always an act of self-love and liberation.
Fresh from making her Stagecoach festival debut in California last month and following a string of six practically perfect pop country singles, Shaylen delivers a poignant anthem of empowerment with ‘Let Me Let You.’
Penned by Shaylen alongside Lindsey Rimes and Brett Tyler, it’s a song about wanting to move on and break free from a situationship that’s doing nothing but harm and putting yourself first for a change. Mixing the chandelier rattling delivery of Kelly Clarkson with the cowgirl-next-door charm of Carly Pearce, ‘Let Me Let You’ is the kind of soaring country pop power anthem that Carrie Underwood fills stadiums with.
“‘Let Me Let You’ has been a title I’ve been holding onto for forever. It’s truly the anthem of finally seeing how a person has continuously kept a toxic cycle going, even when you’re trying to move on,” says Shaylen. “Let’s just say your girl has finally moved on, and man it feels good to go back and write these songs knowing I made it out of that heartbreak phase! I hope everyone listening feels that same sense of empowerment… don’t forget what you deserve.”
‘Let Me Let You’ follows previous country singles ‘Roots,’ ‘Do It Right The First Time,’ Closest Thing To Closure,’ Cowboys Never Cry,’ ‘Been There Before’ and ‘What If I Don’t’ as she clocks up over 100 million streams to date and proves country music is exactly where she belongs.
‘Let Me Let You’ is premiering exclusively on Holler below.
Born outside of Nashville in Chattanooga, TN, and raised in Dallas, TX, Shaylen was no stranger to the world of country music growing up, and after spending 10 years in Los Angeles as a thriving pop artist with Republic Records, garnering a strong fanbase and tens-of millions of streams, she rediscovered her country and gospel influences and her roots in the south, bringing her pop chops and powerhouse twang back with her to Tennessee.
“Tennessee is where my roots are. But sometimes you’ve got to search to find yourself in different places,” she says, “just to come back to who you always were. Everyone has a thumbprint. But nobody has your thumbprint. I keep that in mind and remind myself from time to time that I am exactly where I’m supposed to be.”
‘Let Me Let You’ is released on 24th May. Click here to presave.
