“If you’re gonna throw your life away, he’d better have a motorcycle,” Lorelai tells Rory in the opening episode of Gilmore Girls when her daughter says she doesn’t want to change schools after all.

Well, Lorelai Gilmore would heartily approve of Bones Owens. Combining his country roots and ‘90s alternative nostalgia, Nashville-based Bones Owens has announced his forthcoming genre-bending album, Love Out of Lemons, for July and he’s doing it all from the back of a Harley Davidson.

The latest cut lifted from the album, ‘Going Back Where I Came From,’ is a speaker blowing slab of howling country rock that mixes the ‘70s glam swagger of Marc Bolan with the bluesy southern rock of Creedence Clearwater Revival.

“It’s the tale of a guy who’s reached his wits’ end with city life and longs to return to his rural roots,” Owens says of the track, explaining how it inspired a very unique tour in the process.

“The Going Back Where I Came From tour is the realization of a goal I’ve had for years to ride my motorcycle from show to show. With a guitar strapped to the back of my Harley Davidson, I’ll cut through the 2-lane roads of the Midwest, taking in the culture and soaking up the countryside from the region that raised me.”

Raised on country, gospel, and bluesy classic rock in rural Missouri, the solo trek around the Midwest will include Owens’ native state and Harley Davidson’s Milwaukee headquarters, as he stops off to do some intimate shows and radio spots, “as well as checking in on friends and family along the way.”

The follow up to the more introspective Eighteen Wheeler EP which came out last year, Love Out of Lemons was produced by Paul Moak at his Smoakstack studio in Nashville.

“I think it’s perfect that the record is coming out in the summer,” Owens says. “Because it very much feels like a sunny day, drivin’-down-the-road soundtrack to me.”

‘Going Back Where I Came From’ is premiering exclusively on Holler below.

As well as the Going Back Where I Came From motorcycle tour, Bones Owens has also just announced that he’ll be supporting Blackberry Smoke when they return to the UK and Europe in September.

“It feels great to be coming back to the UK and Europe,” Owens says about the shows. “It’s been 9 years since I was last there, and this is the first time as Bones Owens. I couldn’t be more excited to be joining Blackberry Smoke on their tour - they’re a band that’s paved the way for guys like me and I have a ton of respect for them and the way they’ve grown a following abroad. Looking forward to a proper rock-n-roll tour.”
