Against an expansive, mountainous backdrop, Charley Crockett performed his The Man From Waco track, ‘I'm Just A Clown’, for the Jimmy Kimmel Live audience on Thursday.
When you think of Charley Crockett, the first word that springs to mind is ‘cool’, and this set epitomised that.
Accompanied by his Blue Drifters band, Charley stood out front in a green, Western shirt and crooned the despairing lyrics to his jazz-infused song.
The set, which refreshingly made no attempts to shy away from the traditional aesthetic that Charley leans into, signifies the continued emergence of a new crop of outlaw artists across the alt-country space.
‘I'm Just A Clown’ was a well-received song choice, with the track slowly building from the laid-back opening into an emphatic, crowd-pleasing crescendo.
It comes during a week in which Charley Crockett released the music video for ‘Odessa’, which also appears on his 2022 album, The Man From Waco. In November, he unveiled his first ever Australian tour, which is scheduled for March 2023.
Crockett's Jimmy Kimmel Live performance, which was sponsored by Mercedes-EQ, aired on Thursday December 7.
