It seems like it’s the year of adorably cute couples in music videos!
After our exclusive premiere of the new video from Native Harrow found the couple loved up and frolicking through the English countryside, now they’re up to it over on the other side of the pond.
Canadian husband-and-wife duo Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet are dancing in the Hollywood hills and hitting the seaside, swinging their way into our hearts with the delightful new video for ‘If The Loneliness Don’t Kill Me’.

Married in 2006 after having toured in each other's bands for years, the pair put their two solo careers on hold in 2010 to work, tour and make music together as Whitehorse. Now, with the release of their eighth album, I’m Not Crying, You’re Crying, they breathe new life into the quintessential country duet.
It’s been a run of albums and EPs that have seen them dipping their toes into everything from floorboard-stamping blues rock and cosmic Americana to pop noir and celestial folk, always coming out with their distinctive musical identity intact. Their ability to seamlessly switch between genres is attested to by their five consecutive JUNO Award nominations in three different genre categories.
On their new record, Whitehorse don’t just dip their toes into 70s-inspired classic country music, they jump in and splash about and luxuriate in its depths and currents. The simplicity and timelessness of the songs belies a musical playfulness and uniquely modern wit as they reimagine the country duet for a new generation.
“I wanna stumble from The Three Speed / shout obscenities down Bloor / I wanna stay the morning after / wake up on your hardwood floor”, they sing in this tale of unfinished love affairs and late nights spent longing for something more.
What gives the song its power is its eerie familiarity, like a song you might hear coming out of some tinny speakers in a diner somewhere late at night, while the rain beats against the window.
It feels like both a return to their roots and an entirely new development of their sound at the same time. The harmonies sound even more heartbreaking, the lyrics more acerbic and even more on point, the two singular talents even more perfectly in tune with each other than ever before. It’s an album that touches on heartbreak, loyalty and the toll times takes on love and friendship, as the characters that inhabit the songs come to life song by song.
“I’ve been looking for you, stranger / I’ve been looking for you, friend / I’ve been wandering the streets in my dreams again”, they sing in the chorus. If David Lynch ever made a film about a down-on-their-luck country singer, this would be the song that played as the credits rolled.
