Appalachian singer/songwriter Dori Freeman has released a psychedelic new video for her single 'I Am'.

The song boasts all the different sides to her personality. "I ain't a good girl, though everybody thinks I am/ I got a mind that's dirty as a bottom of a coffee can", she sings on the cosmic-folk track.

But her dirty mind is just one part of it — she's a mother, and a movie star and a drama queen rolled into one.

"'I Am' is the last song I wrote before going into the studio and it turned out to be my favorite one on the album", said Freeman. "It’s about all the different roles we as people, and especially as women, play in our lives — mother, lover, good girl, bad girl — trying to hold all these pieces together in one life and give enough energy to every part of ourselves".

The video shows Freeman sitting in front of a blank backdrop while the lights, set to the beat of the song, turn her face from pink to blue to green. Those moments are interspersed with shots of fields and flowers, and someone spray painting the words 'I Am'.

Freeman said the lo-fi video was specifically designed. "I shot the video over one day at my house with a tiny budget spent on faux flowers and pink spray paint", she explained. "Keeping it lo-fi was the best way to capture the spirit of the song".

'I Am' appears on Freeman's forthcoming fourth studio album Ten Thousand Roses. She first burst on the scene with her acclaimed self-titled debut in 2016 , which showcased her Appalachian folk and ethereal vocal stylings.

Despite that critical success, Freeman has stayed true to her roots. She might've moved to Nashville to be closer to the industry, but that's not really her thing. "I’ve never been drawn to living in the city as much as I love visiting them", she said. "I prefer a rural, small town life".

That choice — and the proximity to nature it affords — influenced her latest album. Ten Thousand Roses is out September 10 via Blue Hens Music.
