I’m Still Here has been a long time coming for Travis Linville. Initially tracked live to tape at Memphis Magnetic Studio in early 2019, completion of the Oklahoman’s forthcoming album was put on hold for over a year due to touring clashes – only to be shelved once again when the pandemic hit. But now, two years on, Linville’s record is raring for release; realised as a hearty collection of songs driven by unwavering dedication.
Though he’s built a prolific reputation as a solo artist, Linville’s music is grounded in shared community. His sessions and collaborations with the likes of John Moreland, Josh Berwanger, Samantha Crain and Hayes Carll have built Linville a broad network of connections and fans, all equally enamoured with his nonchalant technical skill, artistry and taste. Such an approach was the fuel for I’m Still Here. Produced by fellow Oklahoman JD McPherson, the record features co-write credits with Natalie Hemby and a band whose combined resume includes work with Jack White, The Black Keys, CeeLo Green and Dwight Yoakam. At its core, the record is a collection of contributions woven together with endearingly visible seams, but it remains a record only Linville could’ve made - or at least could’ve made happen.
Premiering exclusively today at Holler, Linville has shared ‘Blue Sky Bound’, the latest single from I’m Still Here (with a nifty 360 accompanying video).
"There is no great story or reflective mystery on this one”, said Linville. “Let’s go, let’s get away, hit the road without looking back. I’ve written more than a handful of songs along those lines, but in early 2021, it hits a whole lot harder. Travel has always been the great reward of the musician life and I’ve missed it a whole lot. With some luck maybe I’ll be back out there singing songs for people soon, with windows down and volume up!"
It's breezy, it's carefree and it exudes all the joy and freedom of the open road. If 'Blue Sky Bound' is anything to go by, then it's safe to say we can be expect I'm Still Here to be the perfect soundtrack to the world opening back up again.
