It’s not easy to look on the bright side when nothing’s going right, but that’s exactly what NYC-based country singer/songwriter Lauren Davidson encourages listeners to do on her new single ‘Silver Linings’, premiering exclusively at Holler.
In the upbeat country song, Davidson counters that punchy melody and rhythm by listing how life has been dragging: “The bills are piling up/ Times I think, I’ve had enough/ Pulling the water from an empty well,” she sings against subtle twanging guitar.
Even with all of that chaos swirling around her “like a carousel”, Davidson doesn’t let life pull her down. It’s all about attitude - and she knows it. "Put some color in the gray/ Look for love instead of hate/ Get over giving in/ And find those silver linings", she sings.
Davidson co-wrote her latest single with Clint Wells. It appears on her new EP Hindsight is 2020, which features seven original songs written and recorded during the pandemic.
“All of the songs on this EP are screenshots of my life and about the things that I was feeling and experiencing throughout the course of this tumultuous year", Davidson said. "'Silver Linings' is about finding the good in bad situations, and those little things that make us smile and push us through when life feels heavy".
Given that she crafted the song during such a hard year, Davidson has clearly learned the lesson she sings about. "For me it was a reminder to stay positive through the dark times this past year brought and to focus on what I can control, and I hope it’s a reminder for you too”!
Hindsight is 2020 is due out later this year.
