The Nashville-based Americana duo Hush Kids (Jill Andrews and Peter Groenwald) have released their new harmony-soaked single, 'Spend My Time'. It's premiering exclusively at Holler. Listen below.
The slow burn of a song begins with reflective piano. As their name suggests, Andrews and Groenwald quietly detail the importance of being present with the person you love.
"How do I show my heart to you / When it's so hard to get it right? / I listen when you talk to me / And I look you in the eye", the duo sing together softly against mellifluous string arrangements.
"We wrote 'Spend My Time' about the need we share to spend uninterrupted time with loved ones", Andrews and Groenwald said. "Kids, partners, parents, friends — time moves so quickly, and it’s important to stop and pay attention. Listen to the people you love, and tell them that you love them".
Andrews and Groenwald's musical partnership developed from their friendship. Both independent artists, they were put together to write songs for others and found they had a special kismet they couldn't ignore.
They soon began writing songs for themselves, and decided to form a band that would give those songs a place to grow. Their sound blends the quiet precision of The Milk Carton Kids with the expansive harmonies of The Civil Wars.
Hush Kids' self-titled debut arrived in 2018. 'Spend My Time' appears on the duo's forthcoming EP Weatherman, out September 24.
