Born in Winston-Salam, North Carolina, Joe Troop has risen to become an acclaimed multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter and activist. In fact, the latter two are deeply connected. Troop's original songwriting regularly focuses on the issues that inform his activism.
Troop co-founded the Grammy-nominated, Argentinian-American string band Che Appalachia. Their debut album Latin Grass arrived in 2017, followed by 2019's Rearrange My Heart.
As a solo bluegrass artist, Troop released his debut album Borrowed Time in 2021. Many of the songs expanded upon Troop's experience growing up as an openly gay musician in the south.
