We love a good collaboration at Holler, and Allison Russell delivered big last night when she performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The Montreal-born singer-songwriter, who also plays banjo and clarinet, teamed with Brittney Spencer and Brandi Carlile to sing her lead single 'Nightflyer'.

Russell filmed the performance separately from the broadcast. She and Spencer stood around a mic, while Carlile joined from afar. Three musicians backed the singers, adding acoustic guitar, pedal steel and cello for a warm string-laden sound that bolstered their harmonies. Russell even pulled out her clarinet towards the end. Watch below.

'Nightflyer' appears on Russell's debut album Outside Child, and examines the healing power of motherhood. Russell is a member of Our Native Daughters, the collaborative project featuring Americana singer-songwriters Rhiannon Giddens, Amythyst Kiah and Leyla McCalla.

Russell recently spoke with Holler about the artists - and songs - that most influenced her. They range from Nina Simone to Joni Mitchell. Check out her full list.

Spencer's voice beautifully weaves in and out of Russell's. The Baltimore native previously worked as a background vocalist for major artists, but has been pursuing her own career in country music. Read Holler's 'In Conversation' feature with Spencer to learn more.

Meanwhile, Carlile has been busy with her new memoir, Broken Horses. Earlier this year, she released a cover of John Prine's 'I Remember Everything', which appears on an upcoming tribute album due out this fall. In October, the Prine family will celebrate what would've been his 75th birthday with a series of concerts and events.
