Zach Bryan has gained an RIAA Platinum certification for his early song, ‘Heading South’. The track gained popularity online after Bryan uploaded a video of him playing the song by a campfire back in 2019.

Alongside ‘Condemned’, ‘Heading South’ helped to put Bryan on the map, and established the DIY aesthetic that he has since become known for. Now, three years later, ‘Heading South’ has been certified Platinum, in recognition of the song having moved over one million units.

It follows the news last month that Bryan's 2022 hit, ‘Something in the Orange’, had become his first ever Platinum single. Bryan continues his emergence over the past couple of years as one of the most prominent artists in country music. In case anybody still had any lingering doubts as to his prowess, Bryan's ascent into the genre's upper echelons was confirmed with his recent 2023 Grammy award nomination.

Bryan shared the story behind his newly Platinum song, ‘Heading South’, on social media. He outlined that, when he was still working in the Navy, “a chief that used to yell at me everyday when I was becoming an ordnance team leader really bugged me. I was jaded when I went home one day, I wrote out, ‘in a world full of people out to cut his young ass down’ and the rest came in three minutes”.

If Bryan can produce Platinum songs in a matter of minutes, it might help to explain the huge body of music that the Oklahoma native continues to put out in 2022. Following the release of his critically acclaimed, 34-song American Heartbreak album in May, Bryan surprised fans with his Summertime Blues EP a matter of months later.

As the summer drew to a close, he refused to take his foot off the gas, dropping a series of singles that culminated in the release of ‘Fifth of May’ and ‘The Greatest Day of My Life’ in November.
