After setting up camp atop the charts with his new album, One Thing At A Time, Morgan Wallen shared acoustic versions of two of the tracks from the impressive 36-song project.
As part of his One Record At A Time sessions, the Sneedville megastar has released new renditions of the album's vulnerable closer, ‘Dying Man’, along with the warm ode to one of Wallen's icons, ‘Keith Whitley’.
During his free show at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on the album's release-day, Morgan Wallen emphasised that Keith Whitley remains “one of my favourite artists of all time”.
He went on to express his love for the new track they recorded in honour of Whitley, “I always felt he died too young and had a whole lot more magic left in him…this is one of my favourite songs on this record”.
‘Keith Whitley’ explores heartbreak, and serves as one of the many addictively easy-listening slow-burners on the album.
The new One Record At A Time acoustic version of the track strips back the production and showcases the vocal versatility that has made Wallen the most popular artist in modern country.
‘Dying Man’ is another moving ballad, and finds Wallen peeling back more layers as he credits his partner with saving him from the self-destructive impulses he has struggled with in the past.
During Friday's free globally live-streamed Nashville show, Wallen revealed that ‘Dying Man’ is a tribute to his son, Indigo, “In ‘Dying Man’, I’m singing to a woman. In real life, this song is dedicated to my son.
He has changed everything for me and has been a real blessing. He’s here tonight, so I’m sending this song out to him”.
Upon its release, Morgan Wallen's new record broke a new Spotify record as the platform's most streamed country album in a single day by a male artist. One Thing At A Time also enjoyed the biggest 2023 streaming debut across all-genres.
In addition, tracks from One Thing At A Time currently occupy the top fifteen spots on Apple Music's Top 100 songs chart, with the album expected to sell between 400-450,000 units in its first week alone.
